Hoppla, ein Satzfragment, nicht mehr wir haben da!
Man stelle sich vielleicht einen politischen Kontext vor, oder ein Mensch vor einer sehr schweren Entscheidung oder in einer Lebenskrise...

Natürlich ist ein Step ein Step (no doubt!), aber ein Schritt kann zugleich eine Weichenstellung sein, und daher wage ich den Schritt, pardon, Vorschlag!

Setzt man mehrere Satzfragemente zusammen, ergibt sich Kontext:-) und da könnte "Weichenstellung" durchaus passen, und wenn nicht, dann war es zumindest ein Schritt (wenn auch nicht in die richtige Richtung).
