English term or phrase: defended litigation
The Firm had previously successfully defended litigation in the United States courts in favor of the jurisdiction of the arbitral tribunal at La Hague.

Hilfe!!!! Und 1000 Dank!!!

German translation:Gerichtsverfahren abgewendet
Explanation:

Explanation:
They have been acted against, and have had to defend themselves, which they have - successfully - done.
This is what I'd say...dunno if it's strictly "legal eagle jargon"...

It's clear to me that the lawyers have defended themselves (or their client) against an action brought by someone who wanted the original case heard in the USA. This they didn't want, as they wanted the case heard in the Netherlands, and they successfully defended themselves against an application for the case to be heard in the USA. Hope this clears your confusion...Basically, of course, you are right, but then so (I think) am I...

neutral  Marionc: Also, jetzt bin ich echt gespannt.
18 mins
-> I don't see why you should be gespannt - see my added note.

27 mins
-> Basically your answer is exactly the same as mine.
