Als Studienfach erscheint mir Volkswirtschaftslehre (VWL) gebräuchlicher als nur Volkswirtschaft.

Volkswirtschaft ist political economy und ist eine Studienrichtung (major). "Vergleichende" Volkswirtschaft habe ich noch nie gehört, aber die Übersetzung scheint mir logisch.
