Kontext: Interview des Schauspielers R. Chamberlain , der zurückgezogen auf Hawaii (Oahu) lebt, aber auch ab und zu das Stadtleben in L.A. oder New York genießt
....
Interviewer: Which Island?
Chamberlain: Oahu
Interviewer: There is a lot of treats for that **maintenance** that has to be done sometimes.
Chamberlain: A lot of **maintenance** in this town.
Interviewer: Like going to parties and doing things and....
Chamberlain: I love L.A., I just like Hawaii better. But you have to get off the island once in a while and go to New York....

Die Grundbedeutung von "maintenance" ist mir schon klar, aber um wessen "Wartung, Instandhaltung, Pflege" geht es hier genau.... um die der Insel oder um das Image des Schauspielers im Sinne von Öffentlichkeitsarbeit?

Das hat hier mMn nicht unbedingt etwas mit "Imagepflege" oder so etwas zu tun. Eher würde ich auf die etymologische Ursprungsbedeutung "Pflege der Seele" tippen (im modernen Sinn), oder aber auf die Slang-Variante, die aber eher als "high maintenance" vorkommt (im Sinne von "jemand benötigt viel Zuwendung). Natürlich gibt es da auch noch die "männliche Pflege", aber da wollen wir mal vorläufig nicht drauf eingehen.
