English term or phrase: that's what you're paying for

Excerpt from a film: person one is telling person two a crazy story which doesn't make much sense. Person two asks: How were they able to disarm him then?
Person one answers: That's what you're paying for.

It just seems to me that "that's what you're paying for" is a weird answer to this question. I should mention, however, that person one demands money from person two for his full cooperation in telling his story. However, I don't think person one is asking for money here. The only thought that comes to mind is more along the lines of "So war es eben". Any suggestions?

Explanation:
Bin gedanklich ebenfalls bei Katjas erster Idee (21:12 h).

Würde dann - wenn's in den weiteren Kontext passt - vielleicht wie oben übersetzen.
