agree  chris79: vielleicht sowas wie "...in ihrem Leben spielt er schon seit Jahren die Hauptrolle" denn die beiden sind ja verheiratet (soweit ich weiss seit 1991)

Explanation:
In Film und Theater bedeutet 'leading man' 'maennliche Hauptrolle'. Ein Wortspiel im Englischen das sich ins Deutsche kaum uebertragen laesst. In dem genannten Zusammenhang wuerde ich mich fuer 'Mann an ihrer Seite' entscheiden.

Explanation:
Er hat anscheinend nicht mit ihr zusammen gespielt, oder jedenfalls hatten sie keine größeren Rollen im selben Film. Weder bei amazon.com noch sonst im Internet findet sich etwas. Ein Verweis auf einen Film ist daher nicht möglich.

Wenn sie zusammen vor der Kamera gestanden hätten liesse sich der Satz etwas leichter übersetzen. Um den Begriff so jedoch sicher übersetzen zu können wäre der nächste Satz noch notwendig.
