Hello All,

I'm having troubles translating *initialise* in below context. I guess it might mean to "format" - formatieren or simply to "activate" - aktivieren.

"The first-generation 3592 J1A tape drive can **initialise** short length JJ cartridges to 60 Gigabyte (GB) and initialise (or reinitialise standard JA length cartridges to either 60GB (to support fast time to data) or 300GB (to support high capacity)."

I'm also wondering about short length, standard length. Is it possible to simple translate "length" with "Länge" in this context?

The Web ref (a seminar about these tapes) has information about these cartridges. Quote from page 12:
"A 3592 cartridge tape can be formatted (initialized) for full capacity use or formatted with capacity scaling & segmentation, and later changed (re-formatted) for other use."
Initialisieren would also be OK, but not aktivieren.

Explanation:
Bei der Länge scheint es sich um die Baulänge/Abmessung der Kassetten zu handeln: kann also mit Länge übersetzt werden.
