dial-up is the most basic form of Internet connections available today. A dial-up connection consists of a telephone line with multiple users (as opposed to a dedicated line) that is hooked up to a PC to access the Internet.

Eine Wählleitung ist eine Telekommunikationsleitung, mit der mittels eines Signalisierungsverfahrens eine Verbindung zu einer bestimmten Gegenstelle aufgebaut werden kann.

Der schmalbandige Internetzugang, bei dem der Rechner ein Telefonmodem oder ein ISDN-Endgerät benutzt, um den Internetdienstanbieter (ISP) über das Telefonnetz anzuwählen, wird umgangssprachlich auch so genannt. Die Einwahl (engl. dial-in bzw. dial-up) geschieht hier zum Verbindungsaufbau mit einem Einwahlknoten, der unmittelbar mit dem Internet verbunden ist.

No  Tobias Ernst: Ich denke, dass "leitung" hier falsch ist, das wäre "dialup line". Die Wählverbindung (dial-up connection) wird über eine Wählleitung (dial-up line) aufgenommen.

Yes  Tobias Ernst: Inhaltlich richtig, könnte man vielleicht noch eleganter formulieren. Würde z.B. sagen "zwischen zwei Computern".
