From physics class, a mass box is one that holds some weight. Used for measurements and the like.

In construction machinery, the only shoice I would see is where they put the counterweight to offset what the shovel is lifting. It is often an optional piece on smaller miggers, etc.

This is only a guess, however.

With the extra piece of information, I would amend my answer to be just a Gewichtanlage or Gewichtbehaelter. With the compactors, you have a machine that weighs something bouncing up and down. The weight is used to do the compacting.
