Das englische ist m.E. eher imperativ (wenn auch freundlich) als einladend.
Das Pendant zu Greif/lang zu oder hau 'rein wäre eher "tuck in!" oder "get stuck in!"

agree  Anne Spitzmueller: Ja, da kommt das kauzige, die raue Oberfläche des Alten sprachlich gut zum Ausdruck, während sich die Warmherzigkeit eher darin zeigt, DASS er dem Jungen was zum Essen gibt.
