Der Euro hat seit Jahresbeginn gegenüber dem Dollar gut 16 Prozent an Wert gewonnen, gegenüber dem japanischen Yen rund 7 Prozent. Der **handelsgewichtete Euro-Index** stieg um 11,5 Prozent. Dieser Index lag im ersten Quartal 1999, also zu Beginn der Währungsunion, bei 100 Prozent. Wichtigster Grund für die Aufwertung des Euro war die Schwäche des Dollar, der gegenüber vielen großen Währungen an Wert verloren hat. Dahinter stehen zunehmende Sorgen vieler privater Investoren über die großen Defizite in Amerikas Leistungsbilanz und Staatshaushalt. |
