Der Text stammt aus einer Prüfung, mich interessiert ob "coherent" als "kohärent" oder nicht als Fremdwort (z.B. schlüssig) übersetzt werden soll und was mit eschewed (verhalten?) geschehen soll
Explanation: logisch (und) zurückhaltend, obwohl kohärent auch oft verwendet wird. Mir persönlich gefällt es in diesem Zusammenhäng nicht. Ich würde eher logisch/verständlich (oder vielleicht auch noch schlüssig - wie von Ihnen vorgeschlagen) nehmen.

Of course, Ricki, there is no way to make a correct English sentence with "eschewed". All the answers proposed tried to combine the two terms into a "meaningful" sentence, whereas an even absurd German alternative should have been proposed.
"Eschewed" makes no sense. It is synonymous to "avoided", and that does not produce a meaningful statement. I bet this is from a multiple-choice test, and "eschewed" is the wrong choice :) "Ich wnschte, Busch wrde mal eine schlssige Rede halten, ..."
The question referring to the president asked students to say whether coherent or eschewed was the proper word. The sentence would be more coherent if one eschewed eschewed.

Explanation: D.h.: einerseits klar und deutlich sagen, was er meint (nicht in Rätseln sprechen), andererseits nicht übertreiben ("Wir sind die Größten, die Schönsten, die Besten, der Irakkrieg hat sich gelohnt und demnächst wird dort alles großartig sein).
Die Verwendung des Ausdrucks "kohärent" würde ich in diesem Satz als Stilbruch empfinden.
