Der Begriff bezeichnet das erste zu einem Abschluss führende Studium und entspricht m.E. insofern "undergraduate". Daran würden sich "postgraduate studies" anschließen, die auch als Aufbaustudiengänge bezeichnet werden können.

It really depends also who is reading this, and to whose understanding of the studies you are tryinng to convey the course of studies, believe me it can make a big difference. Administrators do not take the time to find out how other systems work. They want to be spoon fed. I am asuming here that you are not trying to appeal to a Swiss mentality.

Fast in ganz Europa existiert bereits eine zweistufige Abschlussstruktur, auch wenn dies nicht alle betreffenden Länder schon als Bachelor/ Master-System bezeichnen. Seit 1998 gibt es auch in Deutschland die Möglichkeit von Bachelor- Abschlüssen, in Österreich seit einem Jahr, Italien will sich dieses Jahr anpassen, und Frankreich dürfte bald nachziehen. Damit verbleiben in Europa nur noch Griechenland, Spanien und die Schweiz mit der einstufigen Abschlussstruktur an den Hochschulen. Alle anderen Länder haben weitgehend das Bachelor-Master-PhD-Prinzip eingeführt, das «3/5/8»-Modell, den «weltweiten De-facto-Standard». Der Anpassungsdruck auf das schweizerische Studiensystem nimmt damit gewaltig zu. Die Spielregel: Alle machen mit, wer abseits steht, ist selber schuld.

ok Mag. RaWa, here it is verbatim from the reference site you noted in your comment. Subsequently, this seems to have universal application. Undergraduate courses are of 4 year duration, not three. And there is no repetition, because the requirements and units have to be completed in order to obtain the Bachelor Degree.

  -> sorry, it is not a matter of year, but one of meeting the requirement and units. This ordinarily takes 4 years. Perhaps a student can complete it in 3, but then he/she is taking summer school and a very high load during the semester or quarter terms!

Die Grundstufe (Bachelor) vermittelt eine breite «grundlegende wissenschaftliche Bildung» (und beinhaltet sicher auch Stoff der heutigen gymnasialen Oberstufe), der Master-Abschluss ist als «Fachvertiefung mit ersten eigenen Erfahrungen in der Forschung» definiert, der Doktor/PhD-Abschluss verlangt eine «wesentliche Mitarbeit in der Forschung und eigene Resultate».
