In der Tabelle, in der die belegten Fächer und Noten eingetragen sind, gibt es eine Spalte mit "Graded Attempt.". In der Erklärung zum Notensystem auf der Rückseite des Zeugnisses kommen dann noch "hours attempted" vor. Kontext hierzu: "Grade point average is calculated by dividing grade points by hours attempted." Geht es hier wirklich um "versuchte" Stunden bzw. benotete "Versuche" oder ist "attempt(ed)" hier anders zu verstehen? |

"Hours attempted" sind die Stunden, die man an Kursen teilgenommen hat, ohne aber einen Abschluss bzw. Kreditpunkte zu erzielen. Man hat also was gelernt, kann es aber nicht durch Punkte demonstrieren ("You have attempted 114 hours during your entire college career. Out of the 114 hours attempted, you have successfully completed a total of 87 hours (76% of the coursework attempted).", "Die Studiendauer beträgt 10 Semester in denen Lehrveranstaltungen im Ausmaß von 205 Semesterstunden zu absolvieren sind.") |

Explanation:
grade point average is usually the sum of all the points divided by the the number of grades (not the number of hours).
For example, in college I used to take 16 -18 hrs. every semester. 6 classes (3 hrs. each). if I received 4 A's and 2 B's.....I would calculate my grade point average as: 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 3 = 22 pts. 22 / 6 = 3.66 average
Dazu sollte man wissen, das es in England und den USA ein anderes Notensystem gibt. Dort gibts es nicht 1-6, sondern A-F. A=4points, B=3points, C=2points, D=1point und F=0points. Das E als Note entfällt hier. Diese Informationen kommen aus erster HAnd, habe sie von einem befreundetem amerikanischen Lehrer.
