English to German translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general) / rifles | | English term or phrase: cap-and-ball gun | Es geht um die Entstehungsgeschichte von Perkussionsgewehren, die in der Führung durch ein Wild-West-Museum erläutert wird. Das Perkussionsschloss wurde von einem schottischen Geistlichen namens Forsyth erfunden. Weiter in der Geschichte geht es wie folgt (von einem "Cowboy" gesprochen, deshalb die etwas flapsige Ausdrucksweise):
"So Forsyth invented a little chemical pill to replace the priming charge. Soon a guy named Shaw in England enlosed Forsyth's pill with copper, making a cap. This is why some guns of this type (i.e. percussion guns) are also called CAP LOCKS or CAP-AND-BALL GUNS."
Leider finde ich auch für cap-and-ball gun nur Perkussionsgewehr -- kennt jemand vielleicht auch auf Deutsch ein Synonym?

Caps sind Zündhütchen und Balls sind die Weichbleikugeln. Perkussionsgewehr ist der Überbegriff - auch einfach Vorderlader genannt (und nicht zuletzt mein großes Hobby) :-) |
