Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general) / Trocknungssysteme | | English term or phrase: by orders of magnitude | Wie kann ich "by orders of magnitude" im folgenden zusammenhang verstehen? Es geht immer noch um Trocknungssysteme, dieses mal um die Firmengeschichte:
XXX developed continuous thermal equipment, automating what had been a labor intensive batch process, allowing production rates to increase by orders of magnitude.

Eigentlich hat "order of magnitude" die Bedeutung des Zehnfachen (Faktors Zehn) - siehe u. a. http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/presrep95/o.htm
"order of magnitude - An amount equal to ten times a given value; thus if some quantity was ten times as great as another quantity, it would be an order of magnitude greater; if one hundred times as great, it would be larger by two orders of magnitude"
Aufgrund der unbestimmten Pluralverwendung in Deinem Text gehe ich aber nicht davon aus, dass diese streng technische Definition hier anzuwenden ist, sondern würde davon sprechen, dass die Fertigungsgeschwindigkeit/Fertigungsleistung (ganz) erheblich gesteigert werden konnte. "um Größenordnungen" fiel mir zwar zuerst ein, gefällt mir jedoch nicht unbedingt am besten.
Dennoch würde ich beim Kunden nachfragen, ob nicht doch "um den Faktor Zehn" gemeint ist. |
