mir will hier einfach nicht der Begriff einfallen: ein hohles/stumpfes Geräusch? Es "klingt" eben nicht, aber wie sagt man dazu im Deutschen? Mattes Geräusch gibt es ja wohl nicht, oder?
Der Satz dazu (es geht um die Prüfung einer Schleifscheibe auf Beschädigungen, Risse):
A “flat” sound may indicate a flaw in the wheel.
Davor steht die Anweisung, dass der Außendurchmesser mit einem Holz abgeklopft werden soll.
