A recent survey by English Nature found that, overall, only 57% of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) were considered to be in favourable condition;

etwas in der Art gibt es bestimmt auch bei uns? Ich weiß aber nicht, ob Naturschutzgebiete zu eng gegriffen ist??

Explanation:
"SSSI" ist ebenso wie "area of outstanding natural beauty" ein spezifisch britischer Terminus, während das deutsche "Naturdenkmal" sowohl die Naturschönheit als auch das wissenschaftliche Interesse (die wissenschaftliche Bedeutung) umfassen kann - daher die Präzisierung in meinem Vorschlag.
