Environment & Ecology | | English term or phrase: pilot areas | | Water Framework Directive (Dir 2000/60/EC) – a very wide ranging Directive which tackles pollution of groundwater, affecting such diverse issues as the management of oils and diesel, machinery wash down areas, pesticides and fertiliser. It is based on the designation of River Basin catchment areas for which a management plan including programme of measures must be finalised by 2009, the programme must be made operational by 2012 and all set environmental objectives must be met by 2015. This will, potentially, have a profound impact on golf. It is recommended that all golf clubs become active participants in their relevant river basin district structures at an early stage and that golf clubs in **pilot areas** start this process immediately. |
