Es geht hier um eine Rasse, die den Weltraum bereist. Diese Eumel sehen aus wie Insekten, sind aber keine.

Kann ich "shell" mit Panzer übersetzen? Und was ist mit exo gemeint? exotic?

"Exo-" ist hier einfach das Gegenteil von "interior". Also "Außenskelett". Im Deutschen sind beide Begriffe gebräuchlich, also "Außenskelett" oder "Exoskelett".
