es gibt ja auch "choke" bei Auto oder Flugzeug. Vielleicht könnte man es daher nehmen.

Ja, es bezieht sich auf eine Stadt, aber das Problem, das eine Stadt nicht lachen kann, besteht doch auch im englischen Originaltext (oder sollten englische Städte sich da anders verhalten....?)

disagree  Nadine Kahn: Wie soll das mit der Stadt konform gehen? Irgendetwas mit "ersticken" find ich gut, aber das Lachen müsste m. E. ersetzt werden bei diesem Kontext. @Michaela: Die Frage ist doch, wenn es im Engl. schon falsch ist, muss man es dann auch falsch übersetzen?

agree  Nicole Schnell: Den "choke" würde ich mal vergessen. Ich mag die Kartenhaus-Lösung. Das ist drastisch und alarmierend und wörtliche Übersetzungen klingen hier viel zu sperrig und übersetzt.
