Kenne den Ausdruck "bit of a spray" nicht. Versteh es so:
Er ist tot/Den hat es erwischt. War etwas riskant, aber es hat funktioniert.
Oder welchen Sinn hat der Satz?!?

Ich bin sicher dass Hans den richtigen Gedanken hatte (und auch Konrads Idee ist in Ordnung), ich würde es aber mit Streufeuer (bzw. "etwas Streufeuer hat gereicht" oder so ähnlich) übersetzen.

Oha, habe im Beispielsatz das "...but it..." überlesen.

Dann sollte es ungefähr so lauten: "Es war zwar (nur) Streufeuer aber es hat gereicht"
