Hallo!

Ich nochmal ... kann mir jemand bei der ÜS dieses Begriffes behilflich sein? Vor allem das "culling" bereitet mir Schwierigkeiten. Kann man das mit Auswahl übersetzen? Diese creatures sollen übrigens abgemurkst werden ;-).

Irgendwie kommt mir aus der Schafhaltung der Begriff \"culling\" für die Kastration in den Sinn, kann ich aber so nicht belegen :-)

culling just means to create here. It could also mean "heranwachsen lassen" or "grossziehen".

I forgot to mention that this presupposes that some sort of selection has taken place previously, hence \"Auswahl\" as you rightly mention!

The term is frequently used with pet dogs and cats etc where several are born at the same time, if you choose one of these it is a culling.

neutral  Kathinka van de Griendt: as these creatures are to be exterminated, I'd think "culling" would mean "selective killing" in this context.

agree  Kathinka van de Griendt: hört sich gut an. Culling kenne ich z.B. in Tierreservaten nur als selektives Töten.

agree  Andrew D: Culling ist z.B. in Naturparks das selektive Töten überzähliger Tiere, sie müssen also nicht alt oder krank sein.
