Es geht weiter im Text, ich sitze noch immer an den Unmengen von Einzelsätzen (will heißen: ohne Kontext) ... es sind alles "Zauber".

Was kann "devigorating" heißen? Kann hier ein Tippfehler vorliegen? Vielleicht von "vigour"?

Über Hilfe würde ich mich sehr freuen.

It is the opposite of "vigourating" of course. These would be words that make you feel weak and dismayed etc, made to discourage you. Chants could also be translated as "Spottrufe". It depends how "musical" they are! Again the context would help you narrow down the possibilities.
