Ich meine man kann beides sagen: 'Die Buche ist ein Reifholzbaum ohne Kern mit sehr dünnem Mark, deutlichen Jahresringen und Markstrahlen, welche sich auf dem Hirn- und Querholz hell, auf dem Langholz dunkel abheben. '

Mir gefiel die ersten Variante besser -)

Upps, merke gerade die Tippfehler - sorry!
Mir ist das 'auf' geläufig, aber vielleicht ist das süddeutsch / österreichisch.
