Wie würdet ihr den o.g. Begriff in folgendem Kontext übersetzen?
Fighting the Taliban, of course prove to be a *concrete struggle*, and women lacked to backing to be able to fight without being harmed or, eventually, losing their lives.

Meine Ideen sind entweder "harter Kampf", was mir aber etwas zu schwach ausgedrückt ist oder "Machtkampf" ? Wobei ich mit beiden Ideen nicht glücklich bin....

Asker: Danke Inga, du verstehst mich. Man könnte ja evtl. noch zwischen physisch und psychisch unterscheiden ;-)

disagree  xxxFrancis Lee: aber ihr habt m.E beide das englische falsch verstanden; ob der Kampf hart war ist hier irrelevant / Eben! Vorher kam die Angst, dann die tatsächliche Gewalt; sicherhlich ein harter Kampf, aber darauf wollte der Autor mit siner Wortwahl nicht hinweisen ..

  -> mhm, wenn man hier real schreiben würde, hieße das, dass (wer auch immer - wahrscheinlich die USA) davon ausgegangen sind, dass es kein realer (also ernstzunehmender) Kampf wird, es jetzt aber doch ein realer, also harter Kampf geworden ist.
disagree  Ian M-H: Ich lese den Quelltext hier anders: Im Laufe der Zeit wurde es richtig deutlich, dass Widerstand einen 'echten' Kampf, mit Verlusten, bedeutete.

Also kein Kampf von theoretischer Art. Das deutsche "konkret" könnte man ja auch durchaus verwenden ...

Nur zur Aufklärung (wegen dem gewählten Vorschlag):
Das hat (in diesem Zusammenhang, betone ich) nix mit der USA zu tun; http://www.waterflake.de/content/view/87/51/lang,en/ ; d.h. ein Kampf, wobei die Frauen körperlich zu leiden hatten, also nicht nur vor Drohungen zu fürchten hatten - daher "concrete". Sicherlich war's ein (über-)harter Kampf - aber das hat der Autor mit seiner/ihrer Wortwahl nicht gemeint ...
