but I don't know of a German expression that can go without an explanation and would still be understood.

Politischer Äquator

Explanation:
Der Begriff wurde von Teddy Cruz, einem Stadtplaner eingeführt, um das Grenzgebiet um Tijuana zu beschreiben, und urbane Gebiete die nach ähnlichen Einschluss/Ausschlussmechanismen funktionieren. Meiner Meinung nach sollte man das direkt ins Deutsche übersetzen, da es ohnehin ein Kunstbegriff ist. Benari Gelad, um dessen Video es hier geht, setzt den Begriff in Anführungszeichen, das würde ich im Deutschen auch machen.
