Es geht um Background Verification und die Überprüfung der Angaben des Kandidaten im Lebenslauf zu seinem Studium. In dem Schreiben an die Universität wird der Kandidat wie folgt identifiziert:
- Candidate Name
- Date of Birth
- Course
- ***Classification***
- Attendance dates

Was ist in diesem Zusammenhang wohl mit "classification" gemeint?

For a British (and probably many other countries) Honours degree, one is awarded one of four grades 1st, 2I, 2II or 3rd. These are variously referred to as a grade, class or classification.
It is clear from the context "classification awarded" that this is what is referred to here.

Explanation:
Das ist von der Uni Potsdam:

Hochschul- und Studiengangwechsler oder Studiengangwechsler müssen bei der Bewerbung um Zulassung für ein Fachsemester, für welches ein Lehrangebot existiert, den Einstufungsbescheid in ein Fachsemester wegen Hochschul- und Studiengangwechsels einreichen. Die Einstufung nimmt der zuständige Prüfungsausschuss des Faches bzw. das Dekanat der Juristischen Fakultät der Universität vor. Beim Quereinstieg in den Studiengang Rechtswissenschaft ist vor Beantragung der Einstufung die mögliche Anerkennung bisheriger Studienleistungen beim Justizprüfungsamt des Landes Brandenburg einzuholen.

Aus dem Bescheid hat hervorzugehen, daß hiermit nicht die allgemeine oder fachgebundene Hochschulreife erteilt wird und die Einstufung ausschließlich für die Einschreibung in den gewählten Studiengang bzw. die gewählte Fächerkombination erfolgt, die an der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Geltung hat.

Art des Studiengangs


Explanation:
Meiner Meinung nach geht es um die Art des Studiengangs, nämlich "undergraduate" bzw "graduate program". Ausserdem werden Studenten als "regular", "special", usw. zugeordnet.
In der Regel habe ich "Einstufung" als "placement" gesehen.
