Not sure whether this can be answered without context, but I don't really have any - I was just wondering last night what the expression actually meant. I know there's a movie and a song with this title, and I also know the colour of money is said to be green, but... is there one general meaning?

Der grüne Dollarschein als Symbol des Materialismus und des Mammon. In diesem Sinne passt auch Victors Anwort ganz gut.
