English to German translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Idioms / Maxims / Sayings | | English term or phrase: Duh! | Well, now, ain't that a challenge?? We all know what "duh!" means - but has anyone translated it into German yet?
I'm sure there are people who have! I haven't, and I need your help - duh, obviously!
Context:
Person says (in a questionnaire) what she really likes doing (visiting foreign countries) and then, further down in the text, she's asked about her hobbies. Since she's repeating herself and stating the obvious, she writes: "Travelling - duh!"
Any ideas for a nice little German equivalent of "duh"?
Thanks,
A. |
| | Clarification request(s) and responsejccantrell: 5:34pm May 18, 2006: I would ask what Homer Simpson says in German. That MUST have been translated. - jccantrell: 5:35pm May 18, 2006: Oh, wait. He spells it "Doh!" here in the states, so never mind. - Annika Neudecker: 5:40pm May 18, 2006: No, jc, that's a good idea! Duh - doh ... it's all the same. Unfortunately, the deadline is later tonight...
Does anyone know what Homer says in the German version?? Any Simpsons fans out there? Nicole Schnell: 5:52pm May 18, 2006: Homer's "D'Oh!" ist eigentlich ein unterdrücktes "Damned!" oder "Darn!", das in ein gesellschaftsfähigeres "Oh!" umgewandelt wird. - xxxFrancis Lee: 8:16pm May 18, 2006: As it's for a questionnaire, surely the main thing is to get the message across - i.e. not necessarily find an equivalent for "doh/duh". Muss nicht haargenau das gleiche sein, oder? Welchem Zweck dient eigentlich deine Übersetzung? - Annika Neudecker: 11:00am May 27, 2006: Sorry... I'm currently unable to grade this question. The grading function doesn't work... will get in touch with ProZ technical support.... Annika Neudecker: 11:21am May 27, 2006: I'd like to give my points to Ingeborg, and I hope the KudoZ problem will be fixed soon. I don't want the "robot" to "take over" :-)

Asker: Danke, Ingeborg. "Na logisch" finde ich gut! Es darf schnodderig sein - ist für eine jugendliche Leserschaft gedacht.
