Idioms / Maxims / Sayings | | English term or phrase: self-indulgent | There is something troublingly self-indulgent and slothful about America today - something that Katrina highlighted and that people who live in countries where the laws of gravity still apply really noticed. It has rattled them - like watching a parent melt down.

Mir geht es eigentlich um die Phrase "troublingly self-indulgent and slothful", für die ich keine befriedigende Übersetzung im genannten Kontext finde. |

Der letzte Satz spräche sogar für 'self-indulgent' als 'dekadent', zumal ja noch einige Beispiele gebracht werden für die Unverhältnismäßigkeit des amerikanischen Lebensstils...

| Grading comment Danke vor allem für den Hinweis auf "dekadent". Den finde ich sehr treffend und brauchbar für die genannte Phrase. Vielleicht könnte man auch "beunruhigende Züge dekadenter Disziplinlosigkeit und Trägheit" oder "beunruhigende Züge dekadenter Trägheit" schreiben könnte. s.a. meine Frage zu "slothful": http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english_to_german/idioms_maxims_sayings/4494314-slothful.html
