Thank you, Ingeborg and Hans, for your input. I did decide to go with Sachverständige(r), although I am pretty sure from my research that this person has to be a doctor. Unfortunately, the context of the text itself (a will) did not provide any further information on the qualifications of this capacity assessor. Your thoughts on the matter were very much appreciated, though, and have helped me with my decision!

does the capacity assessor have to be a doctor? (To ensure the person is of sound mind etc.?) In that case I would go with your own suggestion, but it is not clear from the meagre context
