Initially a visual examination should be carried out for any 'rust' spots on the coating, which indicates a failure in the coating integrity.
A detailed examination should then be carried out to identify any blisters, areas of disbondment or stress cracks.
If any disbandment is present it is normally visible as being slightly raised above the surrounding area and the extent can be identified by gently tapping with a coin, or a similar implement, as the sound is different between bonded and disbanded areas which sound hollow.
If no defects are found with the initial visual examination this typically provides an adequate indicator of coating integrity and no further action is recommended. |
