English to German translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Manufacturing / Welding
English term or phrase: pre-arcing / pre-arcs
Kontext (Rohrherstellung duch HF-Schweißen):

"Smaller vee angles [Spalteinlaufwinkel des zu schweißenden Rohres] promote better efficiencies but may be prone to pre-arcing and entrapping oxides on the bond plane."

"Common HF weld defects:
...
- pre-arc cold spots (white penetrators)
..."

oder nur "pre-arcs (white penetrators)"

Lichtbogenentstehung / Lichtbogenansätze
Explanation:
In welding "arcs" are often referred to as "arcs" in German, i.e. "Arc-Schweissen". The nice German word for this is "Lichtbogen" as in "Lichtbogenschweissen" (source: Kucera).

If they are talking about "pre-arcs" then they are probably talking about suppressing arcs that are not supposed to occur because they damage the material. I assume these are "Lichtbogenansätze". I found this short comment, but it seems to be referring to the same type of damages (see: http://www.plasmaforum.com/messages/22.html).

I'll have to see if I can find "white penetrators"; they probably aren't called "weisse Eindringlinge"... but they are probably white spots on the opposite side of the material that form when pre-arcs occur.

:-)

agree  Danjela: and maybe the white penetrators are the marks that normally stand for defects when you perform a dye penetrant test but I'm not sure there - moreover the dye penetrant test is normally done with stainless steel, I don't know what material the tubes are
