A growing number of environmentally conscious tire and retread makers in the USA have discovered and implemented these splice, undertread and bead-dip cements.

The bead is that part of the tire which contacts the rim on the wheel. The bead is reinforced with steel wire, and compounded of high strength, low flexibility rubber. The bead seats tightly against the two rims on the wheel to ensure that a tubeless tire holds air without leakage.

Zuletzt wird die Laufflächenmischung aufgebracht, und der Reifenrohling (green tire) wird in einer Form unter Druck (bis zu 22 bar) vulkanisiert. Die Vulkanisationsdauer und Temperatur (bei PKW-Reifen 170–200 °C) hängt von der Größe und Dicke des Reifen ab (ca. 9–13 Minuten). In diesem letzten Schritt erhält der Reifen das Profil, welches als Negativ in der Form eingearbeitet ist.
