Explanation:
The first formulation seems to be incorrect. From the additional description supplied, I'd guess that it's the turning point on a graph.
Wittfoht (plastics dico) gives 'knuckle area' = Übergangszone (area of transition between sections of different geometry in a filament-wound part).

"A knuckle point is a point along a curve (or polyline) which makes a hard turn."
