Es geht um Regression:

One categorical variable with more than 2 categories

If a variable is coded 0,1,2,... or 1,2,3.... it should not be treated as a quantitative variable, as the numerical values only represent categories which may be ordered (e.g age groups) or unordered (e.g. occupations, locations). It is better to represent a categorical variable with g groups or categories by g-1 indicator, or dummy variables d1...dg-1, each taking the values 0 or 1.

Multi-collinearity can occur inadvertantly in modelling categorical data. If a dummy variable is set up for every category, *then all the dummy variables must add up to one for every case*.

Explanation:
Ich verstehe das wie folgt:
Alle Ausprägungen einer Kategorie (z.B. Familienstand) werden Dummy-Variablen zugeordnet (verheiratet=d1, ledig=d2, verwitwet=d3). Als Wert können die Variablen entweder 0 (falsch) oder 1 (wahr) annehmen. Da die Ausprägungen der Kategorie einander ausschließen, kann nur eine Ausprägung den Wert 1 annehmen, alle anderen müssen den Wert 0 haben.

Die Summe aller Dummy-Variablen (= aller Ausprägungen) ergibt daher notwendigerweise 1.

Dies gilt nicht, wenn in einem "Fall" (= im obigen Beispiel bei einem Menschen) mehrere Ausprägungen gleichzeitig erlaubt sind (z.B. verschiedene Fremdsprachen, Berufe, usw.).
