Nur eine Vermutung: Die Nockenwellen (für Ein- und Auslaßventile) öffnen und schließen die entsprechenden Ventile. Angetrieben werden sie über den Link im Zahnriemen. Die Form und die Position der "Nocken" bestimmt, wann und wie lange das zugehörige Ventil geöffnet ist. - Danke
