Drehmaschine) dürften hier nicht in Frage kommen (s. a. http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english_to_german/mechanics_mech_e... ("ölgeschmiertes Großrad mit Lyabyrinth(ab)dichtung").
Bull gear
The term bull gear is used to refer to the ***larger of two spur gears*** that are in engagement in any machine. The smaller gear is usually referred to as a pinion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bull_gear
What is a "bull gear"?
You rarely hear the term these days, but I'll wager that if you mention it around an old-timer that has been around trucks, tractors and machinery, they'll know exactly what you're talking about. The term was originally used to describe the massive, slow, and powerful final drive gear used in large machinery. An example is shown below... (b) being the ***bull gear,*** driven by the pinion (a). http://www.bullgearinc.com/9.html

A fifth *pinion* can be installed below the
*bull gear* for 9 and 10 stage compressor
applications. Although often an
electric motor is used to drive the bull
gear*, the fifth pinion can also be used
to drive the bull gear and gearbox for
turbine driven applications. http://www.bhs-getriebe.de/lang_en/information/documents/bhs...

A. A toothed driving wheel that is the largest or strongest in the mechanism b. A gear or sprocket that is much larger than the others in the samepower train. (references)
4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer

Asker: Vielen Dank, schon mal. :-S
