agree  Cilian O'Tuama: in clinical trials Prüfarzt is "investigator" and Leiter der klin. Prüfung (LKP) is the "principal investigator"

agree  Ian M-H: with Cilian - Prüfarzt if it's a doctor and the "study" is clearly clinical

If the investigator is medically qualified and the agreement is about clinical trials, then Ingrid, Cilian and griebler are correct: Prüfarzt (or Leiter d.k. Prüfung).

If the agreement is more generally worded - if it only is only being applied to a medical setting in this particular case but is also used for research in chemistry or astrophysics, for example, or if the research is medical but not necessarily carried out by doctors - then I\'d still suggest \"Forscher\".

neutral  Ingrid Blank: @Brigitte: there is a distinct difference between a Prüfer and a Forscher (researcher)
