English to German translations [PRO] Medical - Medical: Health Care / general
English term or phrase:admissions desk

This was a difficult decision but I think this is the term that might be suitable for most situations. Thanks to all of you for your input! 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
is kinda difficult as both girls have got both parts of the answer correct.
BTW, Katja, your new photo is just great (Susanne, yours already was a great one)!
Thank you for clarifying that "admissions desk" refers to hospitals, I wasn't aware of this. I think "(bei der) Patientenaufnahme" is a good solution when describing the process in hospitals, and for the work station in hospitals "Empfang" or "Rezeption" seems fine. So the question remains: What do you call the reception desk at your doctor's office? "Empfang"?
With Armorel. Admissions clearly = Aufnahme, but in a clinic often the actual "admission" has already been effected via a referral or over the phone, and the actual "admissions desk" is much of a "reception desk" in *that* context. Put some sort of disambiguation note in your glossary?
I would say that Susanne's quotation gives us a clue. The new patient can acquire his or her telephone either at the reception desk (in the foyer of the hospital) where not only patients but all visitors are "received" (= Empfang), or later on when he or she is actually officially "aufgenommen" or admitted for the hospital stay. This usually happens in a separate office near the Empfang, or might even be on the ward (I seem to remember we had a KudoZ question recently referring to the Schwestern-Stützpunkt?) but what is its name? "Bei der Aufnahme" may not be a geographical term at all but a temporal one meaning "during the registration process" .
It isn't clear to me what is required here - "admissions" refers quite specifically to someone who is being admitted to a hospital or clinic as an in-patient (so it is hard to see how an Arztpraxis could have an admissions desk, since presumably they aren't admitting people as in-patients). If you are just arriving for an outpatient or doctor's appointment, then you would go to "reception" or the "reception desk".
