Offenbar handelt es sich bei 'cam & post' um ein Fixierungsverfahren von Knieendoprothesen. Es findet sich auch cam & box.
Der Text vergleicht die Prothese XXX mit der Prothese YYY.

XXX: The XXX achieves stability with a conventional *post and cam*. A *cam and box* require additional bone resection and some surgeons are leary of posts due to an industry history of occasional post breakages.

"Cam & Post" Mechanismus

Explanation:
Begriffe wie dieser kommen in meiner Arbeit auch sehr häufig vor (ebenso wie cam & spine...). Nachdem ich mir beim erste Mal das Hirn zermarterte und (zugegeben eher komplizierte) deutsche Erklärung hierfür erarbeitet hatte, meinte mein Kunde dann nur: "Das lassen wir stehen, das sind gängige Begriffe in der Orthopädie!"

Und so ist es auch, mehrer Orthopäden haben mir dies bestätigt. In der Tat handelt es sich um einen speziellen Fixierungsmechanismus an der Knieprothese.

Mein Tipp also, lass es stehen und setz es in Anführüungszeichen.

Ach ja, und "leary" ist sicher ein Typo für "leery" = misstrauisch, skeptisch oder (wie Du vorschlugst) kritisch.
