English to German translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general) / Separation into blood components
English term or phrase: cake layer
The blood is separated into a red cell layer, a buffy coat layer and a plasma layer. Cake layers are formed in the centrifugal bowl. These cake layers are gradually compressed. In case where the blood cell cake layer and the buffy coat cake layer are excessively compressed, the gap between fine particles in each of the layers is reduced.

Mit Kuchen kenn' ich mich besser aus als mit Blut. Dementsprechend froh wär' ich über ein bisschen Hilfe ;-)
eth
Blutkuchen
Explanation:
Blut kann durch Zentrifugieren in 2 Teile getrennt werden: die feste Phase (Blutkuchen) besteht aus Erythrozyten, Leukozyten und Thrombozyten, die flüssige Phase (der sog. Überstand) wird entweder als Plasma oder Serum bezeichnet.

Kuchenschicht

Explanation:
Seems to be a descriptive term more than a medical.

Look at these websites.

The stuff in the centrifuge is separating into different levels or layers, like the insides of these cake pictures (only round)
