Eustachian tube dysfunction has often been regarded as a “black box” in which the function of the system remains unclear.

Bislang habe ich das so übersetzt:

Tubenfunktionsstörungen werden häufig als eine “Black Box” betrachtet, bei der die Funktion des Systems immer noch unklar ist.

Gern würde ich aber einen passenderen deutschen Begriff nehmen. Ich nehme an, die Bedeutung geht in Richtung rätselhaft, undurchsichtig, vielleicht auch "große Unbekannte"?
