Of course, it is all related to the intestines, i.e. to the "Darm". "Propulsion" is also used, but probably less often, and I found it only as "Darmpropulsion":

Since "Peristaltik/Peristaltismus/Motilität" all imply propulsion, i.e. bowel movement, I would rather go for one of them. I hope this helps!

Marga Shaw: Ja, so steht es auch in meinem Taschenatlas der Physiologie, "... während peristaltische Wellen der Fortbewegung [Propulsion] des Darminhaltes in Richtung Dickdarm dienen". :-)

de>en: The other answers are good, but this one suits my preference for literal translation where it best preserves meaning. Normal peristalsis and motility imply propulsion, but there is also non-propulsive peristalsis and motility. Propulsion is unambiguous.

Henry S: Kann Susanne nur zustimmen- Propulsion bezieht sich allein auf die "propulsive Peristaltik" (vgl. nicht-propulsive/retrograde Peristaltik), warum also nicht einfach bei "Propulsion" bleiben?!
