Tech/Engineering - Metallurgy / Casting | | English term or phrase: galling vs cold-welding | Mein Text stammt zwar aus der Medizin, es geht jedoch um ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Titanplatten für die Unfallchirurgie.
Dabei geht es um die Eigenschaften bestimmter Implantatsysteme und die Bedenken, die Ärzte hierbei haben können.
Der konkrete Satz lautet:
"I am concerned about cold-welding with Titanium plates" (Überschrift)
"Cold-welding, more correctly known as "galling" is a commonly understood process in metallurgy and tribology Galling usually refers to adhesive wear and transfer of materials between metallic surfaces where relative motion is involved."
Was bedeuten denn die beiden Begriffe in diesem Kontext??
Cold-welding kenne ich als "Kaltschweißen" und galling als "Frass", "ABrieb" etc.
Mir ist nicht geläufig, dass sie als Synonyme verwendet werden....
Bräuchte mal Eure "Aufklärung" ;-)

Wenn das Gleiten zwischen zwei Flächen aufgrund zu hoher Reibung unmöglich wird, kommt es in der Tat dazu, dass die Oberflächen aneinander "hängen bleiben", sprich, sie gehen ungewollt die Verbindung ein, die ähnlich auch beim Kalt(-press-)schweißen gewollt stattfindet.

surface."
