\'gauge\' ist eigentlich nur ein Eichmaß und kann sich auf alle möglichen Qualitäten beziehen. Ist das nicht aus deinem Dokument ersichtlich?

wobei aus dem Kontext nicht ersichtlich ist, auf welche Maßeinheit sich hier die Stärke bezieht. Im Textilbereich ist das 1 1/2 Zoll. Vielleicht weiß ein Stahlfachmann Bescheid.
