The local commander’s friend brought me a C130 flight manual that listed American airbases all over the world. He claimed that the Taliban had retrieved the manual after a C130 airplane had crashed in the area. The story didn’t make much sense, but I took the binder of papers back to Kabul. “Study this” had been scribbled in Dari next to a signature on the last page.
I decided to give Michael, who liked to call himself Mick, the C-130 manual and suggested the possibility of using it as leverage to get a ***military embed***. This was back in the days when embeds were hard to get and my chances as a freelancer were slim. Mick put in a request that was eventually approved in October.
The night before our departure, the female public affairs officer sent an email to Mick regretfully explaining that I was not allowed to embed because I was a woman. After weeks and weeks of organizing the trip, they suddenly realized I was a woman? The PAO eventually excused the decision by saying that there was another female reporter waiting to embed at Bagram, but she was too overweight. They decided to cancel both of our trips citing gender as the reason. I argued that the other woman’s weight problem shouldn’t be mine too. They let me go. |

bloß weil 'hässliche' Ausdrücke immer wieder übernommen werden, muss man das ja nicht weiterhin betreiben...
oder im Satz könnte es auch heißen '...offizielle Kriegsberichterstatterin werden zu können'
Passende Synonyme gibt es zu Hauf: "Embedded Journalist (von englisch „embed“ – einbetten, integrieren, ...) bezeichnet einen kontrollierten und zivilen Kriegsberichterstatter, der im Krieg einer kämpfenden Militäreinheit zugewiesen wurde." |

| Grading comment Großen Dank an alle. "Truppennahe Berichterstattung" schlug die wertgeschätzte Kollegin vor, die meinen Text Korrektur ist ... auch dies eine geeignete Formulierung ... "eingebettete"lehne ich auch ... da reicht mir auch keine SPIEGEL-Referenz ...

"embedded jouralists" werden im Dt. als «eingebettete Journalisten» bezeichnet - hässlich, aber so ist es. Ich würde das deshalb so umformulieren:
«... um von der Armee als eingebettete Journalistin akzeptiert zu werden.»
