It has got sth to do with prong setting or clow setting.

As German translation I only found 'Platinenmesser' and
'Schaftmesser'. But that doesn't convince me.

'Griffassung: Der Stein wird durch Griffe festgehalten.'

I dare say that both claws and prongs are Griffe!


And then ...
there is 'Golden Griffe Jewelry', the name of a company, based in Hongkong :o))
