der letzte Schrei unter den Entscheidungsträgern Explanation: policy makers sind keine Parteiideologen. Es sind Entscheidungsträger, bzw. diejenigen, welche die politischen Entscheidungen treffen. "wheeze" ist eigentlich eher mit "Witz" oder "Lacher" zu übersetzen, könnte aber in dem Kontext vielleicht etwas unehrwürdig klingen. Oxfod Duden |

wheeze is not a 'witz' Explanation: wheeze usually refers to being short of breath (like an asthmatic) which is translated as 'keuchen'. I have never heard anything like 'the latest wheeze', "der letzte Schrei unter Entscheidungsträgern in entwickelten Ländern ist es Armut in Entwicklungsländern mit Computern und Handies zu beseitigen" sounds about right. I hope it helps Collins Dictionary |

s.b. Explanation: ...der jüngste geniale Einfall der Politiker in den Industrieländern... 'der letzte Schrei' in German almost always refers to fashion or s.th. fashionable 'Partei-Ideologe' is the 1 to 1 translation of policy-makers, but is far too weighty a word in German to be used in such an ironical context Wahrig: die neueste (moderne) Errungenschaft, Mode Cassell Slang Dict.: wheeze: a trick or dodge frequently used. also, a piece of special information, a 'tip'. (orig. theatre use, a joke or comic gag introduced into the performance by a clown or comedian, esp. a constantly repeated catchphrase) Collins Dict.: wheeze: a trick, idea, or plan; a hackneyed joke or anecdote s.a. + brain |
